Collection: Wearable art - smoke fired pendant

This handcrafted stoneware pendant is a striking piece of wearable art, created using traditional smoke firing techniques. During the firing process, a variety of organic and inorganic combustibles are introduced to the kiln, allowing smoke, minerals, and natural materials to interact with the clay surface.

Soft greys and delicate pink tones are created using banana skins, while copper wire produces dramatic black lines across the clay body. Seaweed, sawdust, coffee, oxides, and salt are also used during the firing, each contributing subtle colours, textures, and unique effects that develop naturally in the kiln.

Because the smoke firing process is beautifully unpredictable, the markings formed on the clay can never be replicated. Whilst I try to carefully place some of the combustibles, each pendant emerges from the kiln with its own distinctive patterns and character, making every piece completely unique. When you wear this pendant, you can be certain that nobody else will ever be wearing the same jewellery as you.

Carefully crafted from durable stoneware clay and individually smoke fired, this pendant celebrates the creative partnership between clay, fire, and natural materials. The result is a truly distinctive piece of wearable art designed for those who appreciate handmade craftsmanship and one-of-a-kind jewellery.
