Smoke fired ceramic pendant - etherial

This smoke fired ceramic pendant is made from stoneware clay and has been fired in a gas kiln, wrapped in an aluminium foil package containing both organic and inorganic combustibles. The fumes created as the fire burns create a unique image/pattern on the clay, and no two pieces are the same - I have tried to replicate some of my favourites, but it is impossible!!

The smoke fired ceramic pendant can be provided either with a waxed cotton necklace (adjustable length 44 - 47cm), or a 46cm sterling silver chain (please add below). Due to the nature of the firing process, every pendant is a completely unique and wearable piece of art. The ethereal pattern on this piece has developed during the saggar firing process, with banana skins, seaweed, sawdust, salt, coffee and a range of other organic/inorganic combustibles. The back of the pendant shows dark black lines, where the piece was sitting on strands of copper wire during the firing.
