Smoke fired ceramic pendant - pink/orange and grey with swirl

This smoke fired ceramic pendant has been fired with banana skins and seaweed, which have created the soft pinky/grey background, and the more defined lines have been created by pieces of copper wire.This piece is made from stoneware clay and has been fired in a gas kiln, wrapped in an aluminium foil package containing both organic and inorganic combustibles. The fumes created as the fire burns create a unique image/pattern on the clay, and no two pieces are the same - I have tried to replicate some of my favourites, but it is impossible!!

Combustibles used include banana skins, orange peel, copper wire, steel wool, sawdust, straw, copper carbonate, coffee, seaweed, salt, coffee, sugar, and many others. This particular piece has been fired with banana skins that have created the pinky/grey background, and the more defined lines are created using copper wire. I think that the pinks have come from the salt in the seaweed.

All smoke fired ceramic pendant can be provided either with a waxed cotton necklace (adjustable length 44 - 47cm), or a 46cm sterling silver chain (please add below). Due to the nature of the firing process, every pendant is a completely unique and wearable piece of art.
