Smoke fired brooch
Handmade smoke-fired stoneware brooch.
Each piece has been fired in a gas kiln, wrapped in an aluminium foil package containing both organic and inorganic combustibles. The fumes created as the fire burns create a unique image/pattern on the clay, and no two pieces are the same - I have tried to replicate some of my favourites, but it is impossible!!
Combustibles used include banana skins, orange peel, copper wire, steel wool, sawdust, straw, copper carbonate, coffee, seaweed, salt, coffee, sugar, and many others.
