Cat raku brooch
Portions of the pieces have been painted with a copper matt raku glaze, before being raku fired. This involves removing the piece from the gas kiln when the temperature is approximately 800 degrees centigrade. They are then placed in a bucket of combustibles including newspaper, sawdust, straw etc. A lid is put on the bucket to starve the fire of oxygen - depending on the position of the piece in the fire, this can create a variety of colours from yellow/green, to pink/blue/purples. Every piece is a surprise as you can't predict the outcome when using this firing process!
